History

The union of Great Britain and Ireland into the United Kingdom occurred in 1801 during the reign of King George III.

ANCESTRY

There are no truly 'British' people or peoples. The Welsh are mainly Germanic and Celtic, and in the south much English blood as have the Scots who have Norwegian, Danish, Celtic, English and various other strains. (Dumfries means the Frisian people).

The conventional view of English origins is that the English are primarily descended from the Anglo-Saxons, Germanic tribes that migrated to Great Britain following the end of the Roman occupation of Britain, with assimilation of later migrants such as the Vikings and Normans. This version of history is considered by some historians and geneticists as simplistic or even incorrect.
